Chapter Fourteen

Trielle lay snuggled up in the sleeping pallet with him one evening, limp and satisfied after another round of Zorran’s frequent, lusty lovemaking and quizzed him once again as she sifted his coarse, wiry chest hair through her fingers. If he was irritated with her constant questions then he certainly didn’t show it, in fact, if anything, he seemed pleased at her easy acceptance of her new reality and went out of his way to keep her so pleasured and sated that she’d never want to change her mind. There had been so many new and wonderful physical experiences to discover. As well as all the orgasms there were all kinds of toys. Butterfly teasers and vibrators, crops and floggers, ball gags and butt plugs. Zorran had been training her anally and soon he would introduce her to yet another first. Sometimes, he tied her down and it always amazed her how being at his mercy tripped her arousal and made her burn even hotter.

“So, what’s with the hair and what are these things called?” she asked with genuine curiosity, fingering the thickly clumped strands that hung loose like tendrils. “I’ve noticed most of the cadets have shaved heads, but the older warriors wear theirs long. There doesn’t seem to be anything in between. Is that significant?”

Zorran smiled indulgently as he cuddled her closer. “I’m surprised you noticed. I suppose a few years ago, it would have been less obvious, perhaps.” He settled himself comfortably on the mound of plump cushions she had brought back from her spacecraft. “Historically, the only Zyntari males who were allowed to grow their hair were those who had been in battle. It is a symbol of pride and achievement. The longer a warrior’s hair was, the greater his service to the nation. Mine are called dreadlocks.” He tipped his head so his cheek was resting on her crown and Trielle breathed a quiet sigh of happy contentment. “The cadets, on the other hand, were expected to keep their heads shaved.”

She tipped back her head and studied the shaven sides that framed Zorran’s head. “So what’s this about?” she asked, touching a finger to the short stubble above his ear.

Zorran nodded contemplatively in acknowledgement of her question but didn’t answer straight away. For a while he seemed to gather his thoughts and then he exhaled in a deep sigh. “Custom had it that unless a warrior was honourably discharged through either age or injury, then they were required to shave their hair if they hadn’t seen battle for over a year.”

He was quiet for a moment, his eyes unfocused as if he were looking back at the past in his mind’s eye. “When we returned to find all our females and younglings had been lost to such cowardly, underhanded tactics, everything changed. We realised that while all of our soldiers were out at the heart of the battle, our towns and our planet lay vulnerable. We could have just continued, but we knew that
